About the Institute of Medical Law
The Institute of Medical Law (IMR) is a Stockholm based organisation which provides information, education and training in health law to health care professionals, private and public health care institutions, unions, lawyers and professional organisations. The Institute offers courses, conferences and seminars together with consulting services and published literature on medical law. The company was established in 1980 and since that date over 400 000 people have used our services.

In specialising in health law, our aim has been to educate on the importance of knowing the law in all healthcare related practices, for the protection of both patients and medical personnel and to disseminate information about the legal liabilities, risks and responsibilities of medical personnel, patients rights, and laws affecting the organisation and delivery of healthcare services.

As well as the Swedish medical law section of the company, we specialise in European health law, researching the same and organising seminars and conferences concerning (European) medical law.

Swedish Medical Law
Ulf H Fröberg, Senior Lawyer, is the head of the Institute and arranges course and conference programmes on patients' rights, confidentiality of patients' notes, doctors' ethical and legal obligations, medical responsibility and vicarious liability, consent issues in dementia and minors, medical negligence and risk assessment.

Further courses run by the Institute include courses for developing the skills of medical directors, law for medical secretaries, for nurses and for auxiliaries, the responsibilities of care providers within the state system, law and economics.

IMR publishes books and journals on the above areas of interest as well as a journal dealing with all relevant Swedish medical law legislation. IMR publishes a quarterly magazine (in Swedish) on medical law and Swedish medical cases including reports of disciplinary cases.
